Rotamat R 100: Capacity increased by 100%

Elastomer sealing components with diameters of up to 300 mm

Numerous coating job shops approached us with the request to develop a Rotamat coater that can handle larger elastomer sealing components. For the following reasons: E-vehicles require large quantities of sealing components with diameters of up to 300 mm. Some manufacturers produce several million of these components every year. And all of them must be coated with an anti-friction lacquer.

To safely handle such huge production volumes the new Rotamat R 100 coater has a usable volume of 160 liters, amounting to a payload of 100 kg. It allows the processing of about 1,000 sealing rings in one single batch. Compared to its predecessor model R 85 it can coat twice as many components – within the same cycle time and with only marginally higher energy consumption and space requirements. The first R 100 will be delivered shortly to a coating job shop in Italy.

The new Rotamat R 100 allows the coating of components with diameters of up to 300 mm.

Not only for e-vehicles

The new R 100 Rotamat is equally suitable for decorative coating of components made of plastic materials, such as ABS resin or polyethylene. It is also used for treating thin-walled metal rings with diameters of up to 300 mm with a bonding agent before application of an elastomer coating. Such metal rings are frequently used as shaft seal rings.

The diameter of the rotary drum in the R 100 coater is 1,000 mm. To completely cover the entire internal drum space the machine is equipped with two spraying systems. With such impressive technical specifications the R 100 can coat work piece batches that are twice as big as the batches in the second-biggest machine of the Walther Trowal equipment range, however within the same cycle time and with only marginally larger space requirements.

Walther Trowal achieves the required dosing precision of the coating materials by utilizing ultra-modern sensor technology and an electro-pneumatic valve. This guarantees that the precise quantity of coating material reaches the components within a given time period. The result is a consistent coating thickness and long-term quality of the applied coating material on the component surface.

“With the new R 100 coater we meet an urgent request from our customers who must increasingly coat larger plastic components utilized in electrical vehicles. Specifically, the components are elastomer sealing elements for accumulator cells and their cooling. Even components like control modules for e-vehicles have their own cooling systems with heat exchangers.“

The Rotamat modular design

For the development of the new R 100 coater Walther Trowal applied its proven modular design concept. Depending on the coating application the inside of the rotary drum is equipped with special deflectors or a  central dome. However, the peripheral equipment, such as the fresh air system, the air flow control and the filters, is the same in all Rotamat coaters. This facilitates  maintenance and the supply with spare parts, especially for those customers who are operating different Walther Trowal coater models.
